This listing is offered free of software charges, so you pay only for the ARM64 EC2 instance you run it on. Each dimension is an hourly rate tied to a specific instance size, not a feature tier. You choose based on compute and memory needs. The t4g family covers burstable general-purpose sizes. The m6g and m6gd families cover general-purpose workloads, with the 'd' variants adding local storage. The c6g, c6gd, c7g, and c8g families cover compute-focused sizes. Within each family, hourly cost rises as you move from medium up through the larger sizes.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate for each instance size actually cover?
The software itself carries no license charge, so the hourly rate reflects the ARM64 EC2 instance you run it on. Each dimension maps to one specific instance type and size. You pay per running instance-hour for the size you launch.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or idle?
Software charges here are free, so you pay only underlying AWS instance-hours. A stopped instance stops accruing compute charges. Attached storage on stopped instances may still incur standard AWS storage fees. Running time is what drives your metered cost.
How do I pick between the general-purpose and compute-focused instance families?
The t4g, m6g, and m6gd families suit general-purpose data processing workloads, with 'd' variants adding local storage. The c6g, c6gd, c7g, and c8g families target compute-heavy processing. Choose based on the CPU, memory, and local disk your data pipeline needs.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
