Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. The pricing table lists many instance options, from small general-purpose sizes to large memory, compute, GPU, and bare-metal machines. Each entry sets an hourly rate tied to that instance's capacity. Pricing scales with the instance you select: larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry higher hourly rates. You are not locked into a fixed term. You choose the instance that fits your monitoring workload and pay only for the hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software licence itself charges only for hours the instance runs.
The rate covers Nagios Core running on Ubuntu 24.04 with support, billed per hour on your chosen EC2 instance type. The image comes with Nagios Core, its prerequisites, and plugins installed and configured. You connect over SSH and set up an admin account to log in.
You change cost by selecting a different EC2 instance type. Moving to an instance with more CPU, memory, or storage raises the hourly rate; moving to a smaller one lowers it. The change is not automatic. You choose the instance that fits the number of hosts and services you monitor.
