This product has charges associated with it for technical support with a 24-hour response time. This AMI contains Lua 5.4 and LuaRocks 3.13 on CentOS Stream 9 repackaged by Easycloud. It is a "Battery Included" environment with essential libraries (JSON, Socket, SSL, FileSystem) pre-installed and configured.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for technical support with a 24-hour response time.Lua and LuaRocks, built on a minimal CentOS Stream 9 installation, are included in this AMI, repackaged by Easycloud. It provides a pre-configured, dependency-free development environment, deliberately engineered to eliminate "Dependency Hell" and deliver a highly efficient, production-ready foundation for your scripting workloads.
Core Features & Integrations
Lua & LuaRocks Toolchain: Pre-installed with Lua and LuaRocks Environment variables and package paths are auto-configured in /etc/profile.d/ for a zero-config, out-of-the-box experience ensuring compatibility with modern rockspecs.
C-Dev Ready Architecture: Pre-configured with the CRB repository enabled, Development Tools, GCC, Make, and Lua Development Headers (lua-devel). You can immediately compile and install C-based Lua modules without hunting for missing system libraries.
CentOS Stream 9 Foundation: Provides a robust, enterprise-grade underlying OS with deep structural alignment to RHEL, ensuring high security and seamless ecosystem compatibility with AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, and traditional CentOS deployments.
Key Benefits
Pre-loaded Essential Modules: Unlike bare-bones setups, this environment comes pre-loaded with the core pillars of modern Lua development: LuaSocket for TCP/UDP network communication, LuaSec for SSL/HTTPS connections (OpenSSL linked), LuaFileSystem (lfs) for robust file manipulation, and Lua-cjson for high-performance JSON parsing.
Ideal Foundation for Modern Stacks: By starting with a bloat-free, C-Dev ready environment, you ensure maximum CPU and memory availability. This makes it the perfect, conflict-free base for deploying high-performance API gateways and web proxies (Nginx, OpenResty, Kong, HAProxy, KrakenD, httpd). It acts as the ultimate high-concurrency routing layer to seamlessly connect backend modern stacks including AI/ML inference environments (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Ollama, CUDA) and core enterprise databases or runtimes (OpenJDK, Python, Node.js, Golang, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Aerospike) while also serving as a rock-solid engine for gaming infrastructure and management panels (Minecraft, Pterodactyl).
Production Ready & Expert Support: Secured with the latest OS patches. It delivers a highly stable environment, fully supported by comprehensive documentation and fast technical assistance (guaranteed 24-hour response time) to ensure your infrastructure runs smoothly without costly downtime.
Highlights
Ready-to-Code: Lua and LuaRocks are installed and integrated.
Pre-Installed Libraries: Includes JSON, Socket, SSL, and FileSystem modules-save hours of setup time.
Expert Support: Backed by comprehensive documentation and fast, professional technical assistance.

See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance you run this Lua development stack on. There is no separate software license fee shown; each dimension maps to a specific AWS instance type. Pricing scales with the size and family of instance you pick. Smaller shared instances like t2.micro cost less per hour, while large memory, compute, GPU, and bare-metal types like x2idn.metal or p5.48xlarge cost more. Choose the instance that fits your workload and budget. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What is included in the software beyond the EC2 instance I pay for hourly?
The image runs on CentOS Stream 9 with Lua 5.4.4 and LuaRocks 3.13.0 pre-installed. Four libraries come ready: luasocket, luasec, luafilesystem, and lua-cjson. A C compilation toolchain and system-wide path configuration are set up so you can install more rocks without manual setup.
Am I charged for the software when the instance is stopped or paused?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. A stopped instance accrues no hourly software fee. You may still pay underlying AWS storage costs for the attached volume, but the software meter counts running hours only.
Does the hourly rate change if I switch to a different instance type later?
Yes. Each dimension maps to one AWS instance type, and the rate follows that type. If you move to a larger or different family, your hourly charge changes to match that instance. You pay the rate tied to whatever instance is running at the time.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
