One unit is one hour of runtime on a single AWS EC2 instance of the type you selected. The instance runs the hardened Rocky Linux 8 image. Each running instance meters its own hours separately. Larger instance types carry higher hourly software rates than smaller ones in the same family.
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. A stopped or terminated instance stops accruing the software rate. AWS may still bill underlying storage for stopped instances, but that is separate from this software fee. You pay only for running hours.
