You pay by the hour for this VPN Server, based on the EC2 instance size you choose to run it on. Pricing is usage-based, so you are billed only for the hours the server runs. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS instance type, from small general-purpose sizes like t2.micro up to large memory-, compute-, and GPU-optimized types like x2idn.metal and p4d.24xlarge. Larger instances carry more CPU, memory, and networking capacity, so the hourly rate rises with instance size. Pick the instance that matches your expected VPN traffic and connection load.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and does the software charge run separately from the AWS instance cost?
The hourly rate you see meters the VPN Server software running on the EC2 instance type you pick. This software charge is separate from the underlying AWS compute fee for that instance. Both accrue per hour while the server runs and appear together on your AWS bill.
Am I charged when I stop or pause the instance running the VPN Server?
Software charges meter running hours only. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. A stopped instance may still incur AWS storage fees for its attached volumes, but the VPN Server software itself bills active running time.
If I switch to a bigger instance type, does the hourly software charge change?
Yes. Each instance type is its own pricing dimension with its own hourly rate. Moving from a smaller size to a larger one applies the new instance's hourly rate from the moment it runs. The change is manual — you launch or resize to the instance you want.
