Pricing scales with the instance you choose, so larger or specialized instances cost more per hour than smaller general-purpose ones. Instance families cover general-purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated computing needs. You match the instance to your workload and hardware requirements. There are no tiers or commitments to select; the only variable is which instance you launch and how many hours it runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the Ubuntu 24.04 operating system image for that instance type. This listing carries no software license fee. You still pay the standard AWS compute charge for the EC2 instance and any related AWS storage, network, or EKS costs.
Charges apply per running instance-hour for the instance type you launch. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges under this listing. Underlying AWS storage tied to a stopped instance may still bill separately. The meter follows running time only.
You launch the instance type that fits your workload; each type maps to its own hourly rate. To change size, you run a different instance type from the list. There is no tier upgrade or commitment step. Your bill reflects whichever instance you run and for how many hours.

For Ubuntu Cloud Guest it is suggested to manually configure your Security Group/Firewall settings. The 1-Click Security Group opens only port 22 so that you can access your instance via ssh using login 'ubuntu'. If you chose the 1-Click Security Group, you may change it later to enable applications using the AWS Console or API.
