This lightweight and secure Rocky Linux 8.8 image is built from the official ISO image, carefully stripped down to include only the essential packages and required AWS software to integrate into the AWS infrastructure (AWS CLI, Elastic Network Adapter & NVMe drivers). This results in a minimal image that is fast to boot, reduces storage requirements, and optimizes system responsiveness. The image is updated with the latest security patches and updates, providing protection against known vulnerabilities and ensuring the stability and reliability of your server environment. Other features: key based authentication with 'rocky' username, cloud-init and SELinux enabled, root login disabled, automatic root disk resize based on the instance volume configuration. Rocky Linux 8.8 (Rocky Linux 8.8) with support by Rinne Labs
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for a Rocky Linux 8.8 image with support from Rinne Labs. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each option maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type you choose to run. The hourly software rate scales with the instance's size and capability, from small general-purpose types up to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-optimized and bare-metal instances. You select the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours it runs. AWS EC2 infrastructure charges apply separately from this software rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what am I actually paying for?
Each unit is one hour of running a Rocky Linux 8.8 image on the specific EC2 instance type you select. The rate covers the software image and Rinne Labs support. It does not include the underlying EC2 compute, which AWS bills separately on the same account.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that AWS may still bill separately for attached storage while the instance is stopped, since storage is not part of this software rate.
Does the image cost extra to keep updated with security patches?
No separate charge applies for staying current. Rinne Labs images ship with the latest security updates available at release and include repository configuration to keep the running image updated at no additional cost. You still pay the hourly software rate for the instance's running time.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
