You pay by the hour for the security-hardened Ubuntu 26.04 desktop image, billed only for the time each instance runs. The many dimensions are not tiers or plans. Each one maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type that you choose to run the image on. They span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU-accelerated families, in sizes from nano through 16xlarge. Larger instances carry more CPU, memory, or GPU capacity, so their hourly rate rises accordingly. You select the instance type that fits your workload and pay that rate per running hour.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software charge. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for their attached volumes, but the image charge applies only while the instance is running.
What am I actually paying for beyond the AWS instance itself?
You pay for the security-hardened Ubuntu 26.04 desktop image with RDP access running on your chosen instance. The image is validated against DISA STIG, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and NIST frameworks and updated with security patches. The AWS compute charge for the instance is separate and set by AWS.
Does switching to a different instance type change my hourly rate, and is that automatic?
Each instance type carries its own hourly rate tied to its CPU, memory, or GPU capacity. Changing types is a manual choice you make when launching or resizing. There is no automatic upgrade. You pay the rate for whichever instance type is running at the time.
