Overview
Migration Strategy There are seven migration patterns to choose from when developing a stateful migration plan. Those patterns are, as known as seven Rs of migration.
Refactor / Re-architect While migrating the application to the cloud, modify its architecture to benefit from cloud-native features to improve performance, agility, and scalability. Replatform Introduce some level of optimization to benefit from cloud capabilities. Repurchase Switch to a newer and different product. Rehost (Lift&Shift) Migrate a workload to the cloud without making any changes. Relocate Hypervisor level lift and shift, for example, VMware Cloud on AWS. Retain Keep applications in the current environment that require major refactoring or have regulation restrictions and postpone migration until later. Retire Remove some applications or workloads that are no longer needed.
Highlights
- Assess In the Assess Phase, our Solutions Architects will review your current environment with your guidance to identify and evaluate strengths, opportunities for improvement, and business benefits. While performing review activities, a TCO model will be built as well.
- Mobilize In the Mobilize Phase, a Migration Plan and business case will be developed. Your teams will gain experience by migrating some pilot workloads to AWS in this phase.
- Migrate and Modernize In the Migration Phase, your data and workloads’ actual migration will start with the Migration Plan developed during Mobilize Phase. While migrating workloads, optimization and modernization of your cloud environment and applications will be performed as well.
