You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you choose to run this industrial IoT software. Six instance options are available: t2.micro, t3.micro, t2.medium, t3.medium, t2.large, and t3.large. Each option reflects a different compute and memory capacity. The t2 and t3 families use different generations of AWS hardware. Micro sizes suit lighter workloads, while medium and large sizes handle heavier data processing. Your cost scales with the size you pick and the number of hours you run it. You can start small and move to a larger instance as your needs grow.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billable hour cover, and what runs on each instance?
You pay per hour each EC2 instance runs. One hour covers one active instance of the size you chose. The instance runs an Ubuntu server hosting the data flow engine, a real-time dashboard, and a time-series database for storing sensor data. Each running instance meters separately.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges apply only while an instance runs, metered per hour. Stopping an instance halts the hourly software charge. Note that stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk, which are separate from this listing's software price.
How do the t2 and t3 instance options differ for my bill?
All options bill the same way: per hour for one running instance. The difference is compute and memory capacity per hour. Micro sizes fit lighter sensor data workloads. Medium and large sizes handle heavier processing. Your hourly rate reflects the size you pick, so larger sizes cost more per hour.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
