Overview
Cara is the voice agent for Pega Workflows, that takes interactions from an inbound query to a completed workflow, without the customer restarting, repeating themselves, or being transferred to a human. Cara is flexible. The interface layer, your AI model (Claude, Gemini), speech and voice technology (Deepgram, ElevenLabs), digital avatar (Anam, BeyondPresence), customer service desktop, telephony, and brand, is yours to choose and swap. Underneath it, two layers stay fixed: LiveKit carries every voice and chat session in real time, and Pega processes every case into an auditable, policy-bound action, logging each step, enforcing human sign-off where required, and updating whichever CRM, billing, or ticketing platform you already run as the system of record. Customers can expect a higher first-contact resolution rate, a lower cost per resolved case, a mean time to resolution measured in minutes rather than days, and fewer cases escalated to a human.
Highlights
- Closes the loop, not just the conversation. Cara updates records, triggers workflows, and resolves the case end to end, instead of answering a question and handing the customer off to a human agent.
- Plugs into what you already run. Bring your own AI model (Claude, Gemini), speech recognition (Deepgram, ElevenLabs), digital avatar (Anam, BeyondPresence), telephony, customer service desktop, and brand, and Cara provides the bridge between conversation and execution.
- Scales without re-platforming. New workflows and channels run on the same Pega core, so the system resolving billing disputes today can resolve returns or account changes tomorrow without new infrastructure.

Container image
Containers are lightweight, portable execution environments that wrap server application software in a filesystem that includes everything it needs to run. Container applications run on supported container runtimes and orchestration services, such as Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS). Both eliminate the need for you to install and operate your own container orchestration software by managing and scheduling containers on a scalable cluster of virtual machines.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Cara AI Agent runs as two containers that work together: cara-agent-worker (the voice agent: speech, AI, avatar) and cara-workflow-gateway (connects the agent to your Pega system). Both containers must be running, on the same network, for the agent to work.
