F5 Application Delivery Service for AWS is a fully managed Application Delivery Controller as a Service (ADCaaS) that is powered by NGINX and provides advanced load balancing, traffic management and optimization, security, and API control for the most demanding cloud-native workloads.
It acts as a central control plane for application, API, and AI traffic, enabling consistent routing, policy enforcement, and scalability across environments; without the burden of managing underlying infrastructure, helping optimize cloud costs and reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
While AWSs native load balancing services address standard traffic distribution scenarios, F5 Application Deliver Service extends these capabilities with fine grained routing, flexible programmability, and enhanced control, making it well suited for architectures with more complex performance or customization requirements.
Available with consumption-based pricing through AWSMarketplace, it enables organizations to get started quickly while aligning usage with existing cloud spend commitments, helping streamline procurement and maximize the value of their cloud investment.
F5 Application Delivery Service supports a range of advanced use cases, including:
High throughput cloud native applications that require reliable performance under heavy or burst traffic.
AI inference workloads that depend on low latency and efficient request handling.
Distributed, multi cluster Kubernetes architectures requiring centralized traffic control and failover.
Advanced API traffic management with flexible routing and policy enforcement.
Features and benefits
By combining F5s application traffic management expertise with the flexibility and scalability of AWS, F5 Application Delivery Service provides:
Scalable performance:
Maintain a consistent user experience and meet strict SLAs with adaptive load balancing, intelligent traffic distribution, and support for high throughput, latency sensitive workloads.
Advanced traffic control and customization:
Define routing behavior and policies with precision using flexible configuration, programmable logic, and support for complex traffic patterns tailored to your application needs.
Deep observability and insights:
Gain visibility into traffic patterns and system health with real time and historical data across 200+ metrics, helping teams optimize performance and identify issues quickly.
Integrated security controls:
Secure applications and APIs with built in authentication, authorization, role based access control, encryption, rate limiting, and web application firewall (WAF) capabilities.
Technology consolidation:
Simplify your architecture by combining Layer 4 and 7 load balancing, traffic management, reverse proxy capabilities, and security controls into a single, unified cloud stack.
Seamless AWS integration:
Operate natively within AWS using integrations with networking, identity, security, and monitoring services, ensuring consistent behavior across environments.
Highlights
Advanced Traffic & API Control
Goes beyond standard load balancing by serving as a central control plane for application, API, and AI traffic, offering fine grained routing, flexible programmability, and consistent policy enforcement.
Architectural Consolidation
Simplifies cloud infrastructure by combining Layer 4 and7 load balancing, traffic management, reverse proxy, and built in security controls (like rate limiting and WAF) into a single, unified cloud stack.
Seamless Integration & Procurement
Operates natively within the AWS ecosystem and is available via the AWS Marketplace with consumption based pricing, allowing organizations to count usage toward existing cloud spend commitments.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
This usage-based listing bills across three regional tiers, grouped by where you deploy. Each tier carries the same three charge types. A fixed fee applies to each deployment in that tier. An NCU charge covers the capacity you consume. A data transferred charge covers traffic moving through the service. Your total depends on which tiers you deploy in and your usage in each. Tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 reflect different region groupings, so costs vary by region. You pay only for what you deploy and use.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the NCU unit measure, and how is capacity counted for billing?
NCU stands for NGINX Capacity Unit. It measures the processing capacity your deployment consumes within a region tier. You pay based on the capacity you provision and use, so a larger or busier deployment draws more NCUs than a lightly loaded one.
How do the three charge types combine on one invoice for a single deployment?
All three charges apply together within a tier. The fixed fee covers each deployment. The NCU charge adds your consumed capacity. The data transferred charge adds traffic volume. They bill independently and sum together. Capacity and data charges usually scale with your traffic load.
How does cost change if I run deployments across more than one regional tier?
Each tier bills separately using its own rates. Deploying in two tiers means you pay the fixed fee, NCU, and data transferred charges for each one. Costs for a given tier reflect that tier's region grouping, so your total depends on where you deploy and how much you use.
