The AMI helps reduce manual hardening effort and configuration drift across AWS accounts and environments. This image is built for x86-64 EC2 instances and supports x86-64 EC2 instance families and x86-64-native application stacks.
Deploy and Operate with Confidence
The image is ready for use when launched. Hardened Images recommends AWS Systems Manager Session Manager (SSM) for administrative access whenever possible so SSH does not need to be exposed to the public Internet.
If SSH is required, use the ec2-user account, your selected EC2 key pair, and tightly scoped network access.

Each dimension maps to one instance size, from small shared instances like t2.micro up to large memory, compute, storage, and accelerated types like r8i.96xlarge or p5.48xlarge. Your hourly rate scales with the compute, memory, and hardware resources of the instance you choose. You add the software cost on top of the underlying AWS infrastructure charge. There is no upfront commitment; you are billed for the hours you run.

You get a maintained AlmaLinux 10 virtual machine with security configuration already applied. It runs on the EC2 instance type named in your chosen dimension. The image ships preconfigured; you own the application, identity, networking, monitoring, and compliance decisions around it.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software fee meters running time by the hour. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's software rate.
Why does the hourly rate differ so much across the instance types listed?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance size. Your rate reflects the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator hardware of that instance. Small shared types like t2.micro cost less per hour; large memory, storage, or GPU types like r8i.96xlarge or p5.48xlarge cost more.
