The AMI helps reduce manual hardening effort and configuration drift across AWS accounts and environments. This image is built for x86-64 EC2 instances and supports x86-64 EC2 instance families and x86-64-native application stacks.
Deploy and Operate with Confidence
The image is ready for use when launched. Hardened Images recommends AWS Systems Manager Session Manager (SSM) for administrative access whenever possible so SSH does not need to be exposed to the public Internet.
If SSH is required, use the rocky account, your selected EC2 key pair, and tightly scoped network access.

Customers remain responsible for the security and compliance of their complete environment, including application security, IAM, network segmentation, encryption, key and secret management, logging, monitoring, vulnerability management, backups, incident response, operational procedures, and compliance validation.

You pay by the hour for this hardened Rocky Linux 9 image, billed only while an instance runs. Each pricing line maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate follows the compute size you choose. Smaller instances like t3.small carry lower hourly rates, while large and metal instances such as u-24tb1.112xlarge sit at the upper end. The software charge is the same product across all instance types; the difference reflects the instance capacity you select. You add your standard AWS infrastructure charges on top of this hourly software fee.

Am I charged the hourly software fee when the instance is stopped or paused?
The software fee meters running time only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those come from AWS, not from this listing.
Does the hourly rate change if I switch between x86_64 and ARM64 instance types?
The rate follows the specific EC2 instance type you launch. This listing covers x86_64 instances. Choosing a different instance type maps to a different hourly line in the table. Confirm your application stack supports the chosen architecture before running production workloads.
