Smaller shared-core types like t2, t3, and m1 sizes bill at lower hourly rates. Larger memory (r-series), compute (c-series), storage (i-series, d-series), and GPU or accelerator types (g-series, p-series, inf, trn) bill at higher hourly rates. You pick one instance type that matches your workload, and billing follows actual running hours.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You get a browser-based Ubuntu 22.04 GUI desktop accessed over HTTPS, running on the EC2 instance type you pick. The hourly rate covers the software licence; the instance provides the compute, memory, and storage. Larger instance families give more resources for heavier workloads.
The software fee meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. Note that stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for their attached volumes, which are separate from this software charge.
Two charges apply for each running hour: the hourly software fee for the Ubuntu desktop and the AWS EC2 charge for the instance itself. They bill independently and add together. The EC2 portion usually dominates as you move to larger or accelerator instance types.

Usage instructions

On the EC2 Console page, instance is up and running. To connect to this instance through putty, copy the IPv4 Public IP Address. (refer Putty Guide available at https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/putty.html for details on how to connect using putty/ssh).

Open putty, paste the IP address and browse your private key you downloaded while deploying the VM, by going to SSH- >Auth->Credentials , click on Open.

Login as ubuntu user.

Update the password of ubuntu user using below command : sudo passwd ubuntu

Once ubuntu user password is set, access the GUI environment using any browser of your choice via https. Copy the Public IP of the VM and paste it in the browser as https://public_ip_of_vm. Click connect on VNC window.

Provide the username "ubuntu" and password of ubuntu user you set in above step 4. Hit enter.

Now you are connected to out of box Ubuntu 2204 Desktop envrionment via Browser.
