You pay by the hour for a preconfigured Terraform image running on Amazon Linux 2 with Kernel 5.10. Each dimension maps to a specific Amazon EC2 instance type, so pricing scales with the compute you choose. Smaller instances like t2 and t3 sizes suit light workloads, while larger types such as metal, high-memory, GPU, and storage-optimized instances handle heavier demands. The hourly software rate varies by instance because larger instances offer more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware. You select one instance type based on your workload and pay only for hours used, with vendor support included.

What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get a preconfigured machine image with Terraform installed on Amazon Linux 2 with Kernel 5.10, running on the Amazon EC2 instance type you select. One unit equals one running instance billed per hour. The instance type determines the CPU, memory, and hardware behind that hourly rate.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay separate AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Can I switch to a different instance type later, and how does that change my bill?
You choose one instance type per running instance, and the hourly software rate follows that type. To move to another size, you launch or relaunch on the new instance type. Your bill then reflects the rate for the type you are running at any given hour.
