- Infrastructure: Modern UEFI + GPT architecture with a 2GB reserved WinRE partition (WinRE disabled for stability).

- Performance: System services have been streamlined and Virtual Memory (Pagefile) is disabled to prioritize physical RAM throughput and IOPS efficiency.

Usage & Configuration Notes
- Activation: Based on the Data Center edition. The system typically activates automatically via AWS KMS. If manual activation is needed, please run slmgr /ato.
- Network: Firewall is pre-configured to allow RDP, WinRM, File/Printer Sharing, and standard ports (80, 443, 123).
- Timezone: System time is set to UTC by default.
- Services: Certain non-essential services are set to "Manual" or "Disabled" to enhance performance. Please review your application dependencies if specific legacy features are required.

Please be advised that since Windows Server 2012 has reached its End of Life (EOL), all previously published AMI versions based on Windows Server 2012 will be automatically transitioned to Restricted status effective June 18, 2026. To ensure continuity, security, and optimal performance, we have successfully upgraded the core operating system of this product to Windows Server 2016, and all relevant product information will be updated in the near future to reflect these changes.
This update will not affect existing running instances or currently subscribed customers, who can continue to use these previous versions without interruption. However, for future deployments and modern infrastructure needs, we highly recommend that customers upgrade to Windows Server 2019 or a newer version to ensure long-term support and enhanced features. Remote Desktop Connection
What to expect
- First boot time: the instance may take 5-10 minutes to finish initialization before RDP is available.
- How to connect: use Windows Remote Desktop (mstsc) or another RDP client, open the .rdp file from the EC2 console, and sign in with the Administrator account and the decrypted password.
- Security: ensure the instance security group allows RDP (TCP 3389) or use a secure bastion/jump host. Use the EC2 console to decrypt the initial Administrator password.

Session Manager via AWS Systems Manager
When to use
- Use Session Manager when you prefer not to open RDP to the internet or when you need command-line/PowerShell access from the AWS console or CLI.

Start the Instance in English Using User Data
Purpose and impact
- To change the OS language to English (en-US) at first boot, provide a PowerShell script as user data when launching the instance. This change triggers an additional system restart and increases initialization time.
