Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance you run Redis OSS on. The software itself carries no license charge; billing is metered per hour of use. Your rate depends on the instance type you pick, from small burstable sizes like t3.nano up to memory-, compute-, storage-, and accelerator-optimized families and large bare-metal or high-memory instances. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage cost more per hour. You scale cost simply by choosing a size that matches your workload and by starting or stopping instances as needed.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You pay the hourly rate for the running EC2 instance you selected. The Redis Open Source software itself is free and adds no license charge. Your hourly cost reflects the chosen instance size only, metered per hour the instance runs.
Hourly software metering applies only while an instance runs. Stopped or paused instances stop accruing hourly software charges. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still incur separate AWS fees while the instance is stopped. Restarting resumes hourly metering.
Changing size is a manual choice. You stop the instance, select a different type from the same family or another family, then start again. Your hourly rate updates to match the new instance type. There is no automatic tier upgrade or overage charge.

Usage instructions
Redis listens on 127.0.0.1 only and no password is set, so it is reachable from the instance itself and nowhere else. To use it from other hosts set requirepass and widen bind in /etc/redis/redis.conf, restart redis-server, and open 6379 to your client range.
