DESCRIPTION
Oracle Linux 7.0, a distribution rebuilt from source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, but featuring a custom "unbreakable" kernel. Oracle Linux 7 offers the latest innovations and improvements to support customers and partners in developing and deploying business critical applications across the data center and into the cloud. Features include: Btrfs Oracle Linux 7; XFS; Linux Containers (LXC); DTrace; Ksplice for zero-downtime kernel security updates and bug fixes; Xen enhancements; Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) 3; systemd, a new service and system manager; GRUB 2 as the default bootloader with support for additional firmware types, such as UEFI.

You pay by the hour for Oracle Linux 7 with support from Arara Solutions. Pricing is tied to the EC2 instance type you run, not to fixed plans or tiers. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small general-purpose types like t2.nano and t3.micro up to large compute, memory, and storage-optimized types like r6i.metal, c6i.32xlarge, and i3en.metal. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry a higher hourly rate. You only pay for the hours each instance runs, so cost scales with usage.

What resource does one hourly charge cover, and how is it counted?
Each hourly charge covers one running EC2 instance of the type you select. Billing counts the instance-hours that instance runs. If you launch several instances, each one accrues its own hourly charge for the type it uses. Your bill sums the hours across all running instances.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when an instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue this per-hour rate. Underlying AWS storage or other resources tied to the stopped instance may still bill separately, but the software metering tracks running time only.
Does this hourly price include the operating system, or only the support?
The hourly rate covers Oracle Linux 7 with support provided by Arara Solutions. You run the instance type you choose and pay per hour for that combination. AWS infrastructure charges for the underlying compute and storage are billed separately by AWS.

Usage instructions
Launch the instance either via AWS MarketPlace wizard or EC2 console
SSH Access
Configure the Security Group to open Inbound TCP port 22 from your location or 0.0.0.0/0 (open to the world)
Use an SSH client (for example: https://www.putty.org) to connect to the instance's IP on the port 22.
Authenticate to the instance using the key pair selected during the instance launch. The user name is ec2-user.

Monitoring the Health of the instance
Navigate to your Amazon EC2 console and verify that you're in the correct region.
Choose Instance and select your launched instance.
Select the server to display your metadata page and choose the Status checks tab at the bottom of the page to review if your status checks passed or failed.
Using EBS encryption, the decryption is done automatically when using the instance.
Customer data can be saved anywhere in the instance, however it is a good practice to save user data (including sensitive data) in the /home/<user-name> directory.
