    64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

    An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

    1. SSH to the instance and login as 'ec2-user' using the key specified at launch.

    2. Add SharePlex License key by executing the following command: /home/ec2-user/shareplex/proddir/install/splex_add_key

    3. Updating the database connection entries in TNS and ODBC file

    a. For Oracle Database - Configure TNS for source and target databases: cat > $TNS_ADMIN/tnsnames.ora rds = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ${DB_SOURCE_HOST}) (PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME=${DB_SOURCE_SID}) ) )

    rdstarget = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ${DB_TARGET_HOST}) (PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME=${DB_TARGET_SID})))

    ${DB_SOURCE_HOST} and ${DB_TARGET_HOST} are the source and target hostnames, and ${DB_SOURCE_SID} and ${DB_TARGET_SID} are the Oracle SIDs for those hosts.

    b. Update odbc.ini and confirm the entries in odbcinst.ini odbc.ini --> [DSN] Driver=<DriverName as per odbcinst.ini> Description=PostgreSQL Trace=No Servername=<ServerName/IPAddress> Port=5432 UserName=<Username> Password=<Password> Database=<DatabaseName>

    1. Execute the ora_setup command for source and target databases for Oracle Database ora_setup is mostly the same as a normal SQLNet SharePlex installation except for a few questions: Answer "no" to the following question: Will the SharePlex install be using a BEQUEATH connection? (Entering 'n' implies a SQLnet connection) [y] : n Answer "yes" to the RDS question if a source/target is an Amazon RDS database: Are you configuring a AWS RDS Database? (Entering 'n' implies non-RDS database) [n] : y

    2. Execute the pg_setup command for source and target database for PostgreSQL Database pg_setup uses odbc.ini details to connect with postgreSQL database and perform the setup. Detailed steps are available in technical documents

    Shareplex is really good!!

    What do you like best about the product?
    We used shareplex to provide a reporting database by reducing the load of our OLTP instances.

    Technical support is excellent, the support team has an immediate response when question time comes around.
    What do you dislike about the product?
    When we first started using it the change data process was actually stressing, sometimes the monitoring system sends out error notifications and it ends up spamming the admins with emails alert for no problem.
    What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
    We used it basically to provide a reporting database of our customers and clients
    Recommendations to others considering the product:
    replication to other database vendors is actually improving with each realease, but doesn't have the compare or repair utility that exist in oracle .
