Construction Project Engineer

My Background

After graduating from my master in Civil Engineering, I worked as a structural design engineer for one year eight months in a construction company in Belgium, and then as a general contractor on building sites ( 100M€+ ) for two years one month in the same company. I was responsible for the structure of the buildings. Afterward I decided to move to Japan and I worked on a solar power plant site for six
months before joining AWS.

Why I joined AWS

I wanted to work in a company which helps as many people as possible while staying in the construction industry I like a lot. Building data centers was an obvious choice, as everyone is using internet now. I decided to join AWS which is the global leader company in cloud services.

What I do at AWS

I work in the construction team, helping construction managers to build data centers. I am in charge of the project management software and manage general contractor and vendors regarding work / change / purchase orders, punch lists, as well as security plans and accesses. I also standardize project management in North Asia in order to reduce the level of effort of the different stakeholders of the construction projects.

What I enjoy at AWS

At AWS, we can either grow in our current role, either change team to acquire new skills. It is impossible to get bored. I don’t know yet in which direction I want to go, but I am happy as long as I continue to learn new things.
